Art Parable explores the narratives presented by Danish art from the 1800s and recontextualize them as a framing of cultural history through a remixing of their artistic traits and features.

During the height of the Danish Golden Age of Painting in the wake of the Wars of Schleswig and the bombardment of Copenhagen, many artists chose to paint idyllic landscapes and romanticize certain aspects of Danish history. We want to scratch the surface off of the painting and reveal the context of the paintings, expanding on the art piece to go beyond the initial picture and explore the history behind it.

The title "Art Parable" reflects on the fact that art always frame and reflects the historical narrative of an art piece. We want to explore what happens when we challenge these narratives through a fun gameplay experience and reassert new historical position into old artstyles and aesthetic expressions.

The game allows the player to re-create Vilhelm Kyhn´s painting "Vejle Fjord" with a modern take on idyllic visual expression, whilst adding a fun and interesting spin on it.

The goal of recontextualize history in this way is to encourage the player to engage with art history and the narratives they present in a new way, hopefully allowing for the emerging of a new and expanded perspective on Danish and European history through art. Furthermore, by remediating art history through an interactive videogame, we hope to encourage and empower youth to take part in our contemporary history and engage with it in a way that they themselves find meaningful.
Lastly, the game aims to explore the European Values of Rule of Law and Freedom by allowing the player to make their own choice despite the game asking you to do something else. We want to encourage the player to make their own decisions and utilize their freedom to explore their European history and recontextualize it.
